The 1st Pokemon Cafe Open in Singapore for Limited Time

Saturday, June 11, 2016

Hello, everyone! Ken here! I am happy to make this new travel blog about the first amazing pokemon theme cafe open in Singapore. In this blog, you will be able to learn more about the pokemon cafe concept. Pokemon cafe is the first cafe that I will be talking about in this blog.

"Pika Pika, Pikachu, Gotta Eat Them All". Here I came!

Imagine a world without competitive pokemon battling. Sound dreadfully boring, right? To put it another way, would you rather be served by pokemon at a death match or coffee shop?

For the first time, PARCO Singapore Pte Ltd worked together with EwF (“Everything with Fries”) are excited to bring in the Pokemon collaboration cafe from Shibuya, Japan into Singapore, as Pokemon Cafe Singapore will finally be opening for a limited time from 27th May to 31st July 2016 about 2 months duration.

This cafe is used to be located in Level 4, Bugis Junction, Singapore and operating daily from 11.00 am to 9.30 pm. This pop-up cafe will be the first in South East Asia after following its roaring success at Shibuya, PARCO in Japan.

Here is a few pictures of the cafe to give you an idea of what it look like. This cafe rents a passerby walkway as its stall outlet and they will be serving several Pokemon themes menu only as previously served in Japan Shibuya's own Pokemon cafe. The walking space is considered pack and about 40 serving tables arranged for foodie and unlikely to accommodate too many peoples at one time.

You can see that most of the diners here are from family guests and teenager groups.

On 10th June 2016, I went to this Pokemon themed cafe to try their food cooking taste and enjoys it decorative environment as it is only for temporary before its last day ended. The cafe is featuring Pikachu as a main character and the foods and drinks in this cafe's original menu have been conceptualised and inspired by Pokemon characters and its stories. There is no online and phone reservation permitted and all dining must have to walk-in the cafe to grab for a queue.  Below is the menu for the Pokemon cafe.

Menu booklet was given by one of the Pokemon cafe staff while I was waiting on the queue to decide my order selection.

This is the food menu showing the four food set. The Pikachu Smiling Rice Omelette with Magma Sauce (Top Left Corner) is the famous order in which you will be able to walk away with a free mug. The listed price here is SGD $20 after SGD $5 dollars discount due to running out of mug.

The Pikachu Sweet Pancake (Top Left Corner) is another favourite order for dessert hunter with just a price of SGD $15 after SGD 5 dollars discount with no free mug taken.

This is the drink menu provides four varieties where gourmet diner can have a favourite drink here to release their thirsty after meal.

There are the two dishes that you may be more inclined to order. Every order of the Pikachu Smiling Rice Omelette with Magma Sauce and Pikachu’s Sweet Pancake will come with a Pokeball mug that you can take home. They will give you a new cup.

However it was sadly to me that the pokeball mug was running out of stock and had no replenishment. The leftover mug is for internal cafe use to fill up the food sauce and dessert syrup. Hence, there will be a SGD $5 dollar discount for these two meal courses without any free mug to be taken home.

I was so lucky that this Friday afternoon was not so crowded and not a long queue to wait, just a 30 minutes as compared to the new opening of first week. I have placed order for one food of Pikachu Smiling Rice Omelette (SGD $20), one dessert of Pikachu Sweet Pancake (SGD $15) and one drink of Iced Pikachu Latte (SGD $9) from each at the above menu.

The foods and drinks were served really quickly. In less than 10 minutes, all of my ordered dishes were on the table and ready for my consumption. I will start with the drinks first since it is serving to me and do note that all drinks come with a complimentary Pokemon cafe coaster.

This Iced Pikachu Latte has a very thick layers of cream so that they can paste the edible Pokemon face sticker on top of it. As such, I would advise you not to stir in the cream as it simply does not dissolve at all. All you get are the chunks of thick cream floating around. The two Pikachu ears are traditional childhood snack which is Piring Wafer Biscuit.

Drink Menu: This Iced Pikachu Latte is just incredibly irresistible.

Pikachu Smiling Rice Omelette with magma sauce comes with a big Pikachu face made of saffron rice which served with egg omelette as well as Primal Groudon's magma sauce in a Pokeball mug. The taste of this dish was pretty decent but nothing fanciful. The portion was slightly small.

Food Menu: It looks yummy for this Pikachu Smiling Rice Omelette with magma sauce!

I always know that the Pikachu is sweet but it turns out he is moist and fluffy as well. Between the sugar cookie tail, sweet biscuit ears and mound of whipped cream, this little guy, Pikachu sweet pancake is heavier than he looks. The sizing was really big with two thick layers until my stomach could not take them all.

Dessert Menu: Pikachu Sweet Pancake consists of a tiny little scoop of vanilla cream, few slices of strawberries plus blueberries, a small piece of decorated sugar cookies and half mug of sugar syrup.

This pancake making is so adorable until you are not willing start to eat them.

The sugar cookie tail is so nice and it will molten immediately once you have put inside your mouth.

If you think queuing for their food take too long, perhaps you could consider getting these Pokeball cream puffs with just a SGD $5.90 each (SGD $20.90 for a box of bundle 4 pieces) from their take away menu.

They have provided you the Pokemon outfit to wear for photograph.

Overall, I found that it was a cute concept in decoration but the food varieties were limited and the quality of the food taste needs major improvements. To those who wish to visit this food chain, so be quickly to do so by 31st July 2016.
